Wilderness Landscape & Natural Heritage
Located in Springfield Township, Clark County, Ohio, the Tiffin Centre for Conservation spans nearly 1,300 acres of largely undeveloped forest, meadow, and wetland ecosystems. The preserve plays a critical role in regional conservation efforts, offering habitat for various wildlife species and plant communities. It is managed by the Greene County Park District to provide both protection for native flora and fauna and recreational opportunities for the public. The landscape features rolling hills, fertile forested areas, and several small streams that feed into the Tiffin River watershed. Recreational activities include hiking, mountain biking, cross-country skiing in winter, and wildlife viewing. Several miles of multi-use trails and separate mountain bike trails wind through the property, making it a popular spot for outdoor enthusiasts. Educational programs and guided hikes are offered seasonally to engage visitors in conservation topics and natural history. The preserve’s proximity to urban centers like Springfield and Dayton, Ohio, provides easy access for families, schools, and nature groups. Visitors can explore diverse habitats ranging from hardwood forests to restored prairies, with opportunities to spot deer, wild turkeys, and various bird species. The Tiffin Centre also supports research and citizen science programs, emphasizing habitat restoration and preservation practices. Its tranquil, undeveloped atmosphere combined with well-maintained trails makes it an appealing destination for both casual nature lovers and active recreationists.
