Situated in the southern region of Costa Rica near the Osa Peninsula, Tapir Valley Nature Reserve protects a crucial tract of tropical rainforest that serves as an important corridor for wildlife in one of the most biologically intense areas on Earth. The reserve spans a mosaic of lowland rainforest, secondary forest, creeks, and swamp areas that support diverse species including the endangered Baird’s tapir, four species of monkeys, jaguars, ocelots, and more than 200 species of birds. Founded in 2014, the reserve occupies lands previously threatened by logging, now managed actively for forest restoration and protection.
