Wilderness Landscape & Natural Heritage
Sohrawardy Udyan, located in the bustling city of Dhaka, Bangladesh, is a historically rich and serene urban park. Originally part of the Ramna Park, it covers a significant area near key governmental and cultural landmarks. This site is historically important as it was the location where the formal declaration of Bangladesh's independence was made on March 7, 1971, by Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. The park is adorned with lush greenery, walking paths, and several notable structures like the Independence Monument, which commemorates Bangladesh's struggle for independence. Besides providing a tranquil escape from the city's hustle, it is a popular spot for citizens to gather for leisurely activities, enjoy outdoor picnics, or attend various cultural and public events hosted in the park.
