Silverlake Wildlife Preserve is a carefully restored wetland habitat situated within the urban environment of the San Fernando Valley in Los Angeles, California. Originally part of a natural seasonal wetland, the preserve was revitalized starting in 2004 to combat habitat loss and provide refuge for local wildlife. The area encompasses freshwater marshes, native grasslands, willow groves, and open water ponds, supporting a rich diversity of birds, amphibians, and small mammals. Visitors can enjoy three miles of relatively flat, accessible trails that wind through various ecosystems, offering regular sightings of species such as great blue herons, snowy egrets, mallards, and red-tailed hawks. The preserve is managed by the Mountains Restoration Trust and serves both an educational and recreational role, with interpretive signage explaining habitat restoration efforts and native flora and fauna.
