Wilderness Landscape & Natural Heritage
Shikahogh State Reserve is a protected area located in the southern Syunik Province of Armenia, known for its expansive forested landscapes that cover approximately 10,330 acres. The reserve is home to primeval broadleaf forests, one of the few remaining in the region, that serve as vital habitats for numerous plant and animal species. It is particularly famous for its diversity of flora and fauna, including some endangered species, such as Persian Leopards and Bezoar Goats. Historically, the reserve's isolated location helped to preserve its ecosystems, which have become increasingly important in conservation efforts. Shikahogh is a major attraction for visitors seeking outdoor recreation opportunities like hiking and wildlife observation. Its remarkable landscapes, combined with a rich variety of flora, have made it a key destination for scientific research and ecotourism.
