About Sea Acres National Park

Sea Acres National Park offers visitors a rare glimpse into an ancient coastal rainforest bordering Australia’s rugged mid-north coast, with elevated boardwalks and diverse wildlife making it ideal for nature lovers and casual hikers.

Wilderness Landscape & Natural Heritage

Located on the Mid North Coast of New South Wales, Australia, Sea Acres National Park protects approximately 76 hectares of rare littoral rainforest, one of the largest remnants of its kind on this stretch of coastline. The park lies near the town of Port Macquarie, along the Pacific Ocean, providing a unique blend of coastal scenery and lush rainforest environment. Its primary ecological significance stems from the preservation of coastal rainforest species, including giant strangler figs, native ferns, and a variety of endemic birds, reptiles, and mammals. Visitors can explore the park’s 1.3-kilometer-long elevated boardwalk, which allows an immersive experience into the rainforest without damaging its sensitive understorey. This boardwalk is wheelchair accessible and features interpretive signage detailing the ecology and history of the area. Sea Acres was declared a national park in 1987 to safeguard its fragile ecosystem against development and urban encroachment. In addition to the rainforest experience, the park features the Sea Acres Rainforest Centre, which offers exhibits, educational programs, and guided tours, enhancing visitor understanding of the local environment and conservation efforts. Popular activities include birdwatching—where species like the regent bowerbird and satin bowerbird may be seen—and leisurely walking through tranquil surroundings. The park’s proximity to the coastline also provides opportunities for combining forest walks with visits to nearby beaches. Sea Acres National Park’s accessibility, educational amenities, and protected status make it a valued natural attraction for both locals and tourists interested in coastal rainforest ecosystems and Australian native flora and fauna.
