About Schlaubetal Nature Reserve

Schlaubetal Nature Reserve is a picturesque protected area in Brandenburg, Germany, celebrated for its winding streams, ancient forests, and diverse wildlife, offering excellent opportunities for hiking and nature observation.

Wilderness Landscape & Natural Heritage

The Schlaubetal Nature Reserve, located in the eastern part of Brandenburg near the border with Poland, encompasses the steep and winding valley of the Schlaube River. This protected landscape spans over rolling hills, deep ravines, and well-preserved mixed forests, which form one of the most scenic and ecologically valuable regions in Brandenburg. The terrain is characterized by ancient oaks, beeches, and firs alongside pristine freshwater streams and small waterfalls that feed into the Schlaube River, creating a lush habitat for a variety of flora and fauna. Historically, the area has been settled since the Middle Ages, but its remote river valley has preserved old-growth woodlands and traditional water mills, some of which remain as landmarks today. Visitors to Schlaubetal enjoy a network of well-maintained, mostly easy to moderate hiking trails that wind through dense forests, rocky outcrops, and along the riverbanks. The reserve is a haven for birdwatchers, with opportunities to spot species such as the black stork and white-throated dipper, along with various amphibians and rare plants. In addition to hiking, the area invites fishing in designated spots and photography enthusiasts who come to capture the unique natural beauty. Seasonal changes bring dynamic scenery, from vibrant spring wildflowers to colorful autumn foliage. The Schlaubetal Nature Reserve's tranquil atmosphere, combined with its ecological richness and cultural remnants, makes it a highly attractive destination for visitors seeking immersive nature experiences away from urban centers.
