Wilderness Landscape & Natural Heritage

Rusenski Lom Nature Park is situated in northeastern Bulgaria, encompassing the canyon formed by the Rusenski Lom River, a tributary of the Danube. Covering over 340 square kilometers, the park features dramatic limestone cliffs, caves, and rocky outcrops that showcase stunning geological formations. It is home to a diverse ecosystem with over 1000 plant species and numerous bird and mammal species, including several protected and rare varieties. The park is historically significant for the medieval rock monasteries carved into the cliffs, dating from the 12th to 14th centuries, which are part of the UNESCO-listed Rock Monasteries of Ivanovo. Visitors can explore these cultural landmarks alongside the natural beauty of the area. The park offers a network of hiking trails that wind through forested slopes, riverbanks, and archaeological sites, providing ample opportunities for bird watching, rock climbing, and photography. The natural environment, combined with its cultural heritage and accessible trails, attracts outdoor enthusiasts, history lovers, and nature photographers alike.
