About Pindos-Taygetos National Park

Pindos-Taygetos National Park is a majestic protected area combining two of Greece’s most significant mountain ranges, offering rugged landscapes, diverse wildlife, and rich cultural heritage for outdoor exploration.

Wilderness Landscape & Natural Heritage

Pindos-Taygetos National Park stretches across parts of Central and Southern Greece, encompassing the Pindos mountain range in the north and the Taygetos massif to the south. This extensive park features some of the highest peaks in mainland Greece, including Mount Taygetos which rises to 2,404 meters (7,887 feet). The park’s terrain ranges from steep limestone cliffs and deep gorges to alpine meadows and dense coniferous and deciduous forests, showcasing a remarkable variety of ecosystems. It is an important refuge for endangered species such as the Balkan chamois, brown bear, and golden eagle. Historically, this area has rich cultural significance with ancient monasteries, traditional villages, and archaeological sites dotted throughout the region. Outdoor enthusiasts are drawn to the park for hiking challenging high-altitude trails like the European E4 route, rock climbing on the Taygetos peaks, and winter snow sports in designated areas. The park is also valued for its clean rivers, offering opportunities for fishing and canoeing. Visitors can experience stunning vistas from locations like the Viros Gorge and Agios Nikolaos peak. The blend of natural beauty, cultural heritage, and outdoor activities makes Pindos-Taygetos National Park a significant destination for nature lovers and adventure seekers visiting Greece.
