About Parque Patagonia

Parque Patagonia is a vast private nature reserve in southern Argentina dedicated to habitat restoration, wildlife conservation, and outdoor recreation amid dramatic Patagonian landscapes.

Wilderness Landscape & Natural Heritage

Parque Patagonia spans over 73,000 acres in the steppe of northern Patagonia in the Argentine province of Chubut. Established by Tompkins Conservation and officially opened in 2018, the park aims to restore native ecosystems and reconnect migratory pathways for wildlife, including guanacos, pumas, and the endangered Andean condor. The landscape is characterized by rolling Patagonian steppe, ancient lenga forests, wetlands, and riparian zones along the Rio Fenix and tributaries of the Chubut River. Visitors can immerse themselves in a pristine wilderness filled with endemic plant species and diverse wildlife, offering opportunities for hiking, horseback riding, fly fishing, and birdwatching. One of the park’s goals is reintroducing native species and promoting coexistence with local communities. Access remains limited to low-impact visitation to protect the fragile environment. Key highlights include views of the Andes in the distance, crystal-clear rivers, and spectacular night skies, untouched by light pollution. With on-site field stations supporting scientific research and environmental education, Parque Patagonia represents a model of conservation and sustainable ecotourism in Argentina. Its remoteness and emphasis on nature preservation appeal to outdoor enthusiasts seeking tranquility, wildlife encounters, and authentic Patagonian landscapes.
