About Parc de Merlet

Parc de Merlet offers a remarkable view of Mont Blanc and provides visitors with an opportunity to observe a variety of mountain wildlife in their natural habitats.

Wilderness Landscape & Natural Heritage

Parc de Merlet, located in Les Houches, France, is a unique wildlife park that sits at an altitude of 1,500 meters in the Alps. It lies above the Chamonix valley, providing a breathtaking panorama of the Mont Blanc massif. Unlike other parks where animals are confined, Merlet allows animals to roam freely in spacious environments that mimic their natural habitats. Established in 1968, it spans 21 hectares and offers a habitat for different species such as ibex, chamois, marmots, deer, and llamas. The park's unique approach to conservation education allows visitors to learn about alpine ecology while walking through varied terrains that include open meadows, forested areas, and steep pastures. The area is also rich in history, providing insights into the traditional alpine agricultural practices. Recreational opportunities include walking trails that offer stunning vistas and chances for wildlife photography. Visitors are drawn not just for the chance to see wildlife up close, but also for the tranquil and scenic environment that the park offers.
