Wilderness Landscape & Natural Heritage

Located in the central part of Lithuania along the Nemunas River, the Nemunas Loops Geomorphological Sanctuary protects an exceptional fluvial landscape formed by the deep meanders of the Nemunas, the country's largest river. The sanctuary extends over a series of winding river bends carved into limestone plateaus, creating dramatic cliffs, steep slopes, and a mosaic of river terraces. These geomorphological features are rare in the Baltics and foster a diverse array of habitats, including riparian forests, meadows, and limestone outcrops.
