About Mu Ko Hong National Park

Mu Ko Hong National Park is an archipelago of limestone islands known for its stunning seascapes, crystal-clear waters, and rich marine biodiversity, making it a premier destination for snorkeling, diving, and island hopping.

Wilderness Landscape & Natural Heritage

Mu Ko Hong National Park is a marine protected area located in the Andaman Sea off the coast of Trang Province, southern Thailand. The park comprises approximately 14 limestone islands featuring dramatic karst formations, hidden lagoons, and pristine beaches. It spans both terrestrial and marine environments, with coral reefs thriving under the clear waters supplying diverse habitats for tropical fish, sea turtles, and other marine creatures. The park's name, 'Hong,' means 'room' in Thai, referencing the dramatic lagoons or 'hong' found within many islands, accessible only by small boats through narrow openings. Historically, the islands were untouched by large-scale development, preserving their natural environment and cultural significance to local fishing communities. Recreational opportunities include snorkeling among vibrant coral gardens, scuba diving, sea kayaking through caves and lagoons, and island hiking to viewpoints offering panoramic ocean vistas. Popular islands within the park include Ko Hong, with its famous lagoon; Ko Laen Tai, known for white-sand beaches and clear waters; and Ko Khab. The park attracts visitors seeking natural beauty amid calm waters and unspoiled marine habitats. Facilities are limited to protect the environment, with eco-tourism encouraged through controlled visitor numbers. Mu Ko Hong is a prime destination for nature lovers, marine enthusiasts, and photographers wishing to experience Thailand’s coastal wilderness.
