Wilderness Landscape & Natural Heritage

Mill Creek MetroParks is an extensive regional park system located primarily in Mahoning County, Ohio, spanning over 4,400 acres along the Mill Creek watershed. It features a blend of wooded landscapes, wetlands, lakes, and meadows, providing important habitat for native wildlife and plant species. Formed in 1891 as one of Ohio's first metropark systems, it has grown to include multiple parks, nature preserves, and recreational facilities. The system offers visitors a variety of outdoor experiences including hiking, mountain biking, fishing, kayaking, and horseback riding. Notable features include the 220-acre Mill Creek Lake, the historic Fellows Riverside Gardens, and the Mill Creek Park Golf Course. The park's extensive trail network connects visitors to waterfalls, scenic overlooks, rolling hills, and diverse ecological communities, making it a popular destination for both locals and tourists. Educational programs, community events, and conservation initiatives also play a vital role in the park’s mission. The system is easily accessible from nearby urban centers such as Youngstown, providing a natural refuge with opportunities for wildlife viewing, photography, and seasonal outdoor sports. Facilities and amenities accommodate families and outdoor enthusiasts year-round, enhancing its appeal as a metropolitan green space.
