Located in Baranya County in southern Hungary, the Mecsek Landscape Protection Area encompasses the Mecsek Mountains, a compact mountain range offering a unique blend of natural and cultural attractions. Geographically, the area is characterized by rolling hills, limestone and dolomite rock formations, karst landscapes, caves, and dense deciduous forests dominated by oak, beech, and hornbeam. The protection area acts as an important refuge for many Central European species, including several endemic plants and a variety of bird species such as the Eurasian eagle-owl and lesser spotted woodpecker.
