Wilderness Landscape & Natural Heritage

Maine Coast Heritage Trust (MCHT) is a nonprofit land conservation organization dedicated to preserving the natural beauty, wildlife habitats, cultural sites, and working waterfronts along Maine’s rugged and scenic coastline. The Trust holds a portfolio of over 125,000 acres of protected lands, including islands, salt marshes, forests, and shoreline stretching from Kittery to Calais. These areas feature a diverse array of habitats that support important species such as bald eagles, harbor seals, and numerous migratory birds. The conservation lands include tidal estuaries, dramatic sea cliffs, and quiet bays, which contribute to both ecological health and outdoor enjoyment.
