About Lighthouse Park

Lighthouse Park is a scenic coastal reserve in West Vancouver, British Columbia, known for its rugged shorelines, old-growth forests, and the iconic Point Atkinson Lighthouse overlooking the Strait of Georgia.

Wilderness Landscape & Natural Heritage

Lighthouse Park is a 75-hectare natural park located in West Vancouver, British Columbia, featuring coastal rainforests, rocky headlands, and panoramic views of the Pacific Ocean and Vancouver Island. The park is centered around the historic Point Atkinson Lighthouse, built in 1875 and still operational today, which serves as a popular landmark for visitors and local mariners alike. The park's geography includes steep cliffs, large granite outcrops, and sandy coves, making it an appealing destination for hikers, nature lovers, and photographers. Ecologically, the park supports a diverse range of flora including western red cedars, Douglas firs, and salal; it also provides habitat for a variety of coastal wildlife such as bald eagles, seabirds, and occasional marine mammals visible offshore. Visitors can explore over 7 kilometers of well-maintained trails, ranging from easy strolls to moderate hikes, many of which lead to breathtaking viewpoints or secluded beaches. Apart from hiking, visitors enjoy picnicking, birdwatching, and beachcombing, particularly at the rugged shorelines exposed at low tide. Lighthouse Park has a rich history, serving both as a maritime navigation hub and a community recreation area since the late 19th century. Its proximity to Vancouver makes it a favored day-use park that combines natural beauty with cultural heritage. The park’s atmosphere provides a peaceful escape from urban life while offering ample opportunities for outdoor recreation and scenic exploration.
