Lick Run Greenway

Lick Run Greenway is a community-focused urban greenway located in Cincinnati, Ohio, designed to restore and protect the Lick Run watershed and improve the quality of life for neighborhood residents. The greenway follows the Lick Run stream corridor, which was historically impacted by urban development and concrete channelization. Recent restoration efforts have transformed this area into an accessible natural space featuring native plantings, stormwater management improvements, and habitat for local wildlife. The greenway serves as a key example of urban ecological restoration, stormwater mitigation, and community engagement combined within an active urban neighborhood. Geographically, it traverses primarily residential areas while providing a natural linear park that supports walking, jogging, and biking. Ecologically, the project promotes water quality improvement in the Mill Creek watershed while providing refuge for birds, butterflies, and small mammals. Visitors experience a mix of paved and natural paths, pocket parks, and educational signage throughout the corridor. Key recreation opportunities include pedestrian and cycling trails, nature observation points, and environmental education events. The greenway is accessible year-round and integrates with local neighborhood programs to foster stewardship and awareness of urban natural resources. It represents an innovative approach to sustainable urban green space that balances infrastructure needs and ecological restoration for enhanced community health and connectivity.
