Wilderness Landscape & Natural Heritage
Located in Eagan and Apple Valley, Minnesota, Lebanon Hills Regional Park spans over 1,900 acres of mixed forests, wetlands, and 12 scenic lakes. The park features a combination of rolling hills formed by glacial activity, providing varied terrain that attracts hikers, mountain bikers, and equestrians. Ecologically, the park supports a diverse range of flora including oak, maple, and basswood trees, as well as a variety of wildlife such as white-tailed deer, wild turkeys, and numerous songbirds. Historically, the area was preserved in the 1960s as part of Dakota County's efforts to conserve natural landscapes near growing suburban communities. Today, Lebanon Hills is a popular outdoor destination offering over 20 miles of multi-use trails, fishing in its stocked lakes, paddle sports, and winter activities like cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. Notable sites include Lily Lake Beach, a popular swimming area, and the Interpretive Center which provides educational programs and information about the park’s natural and cultural history. Lebanon Hills appeals to visitors looking for accessible yet diverse outdoor experiences close to the Minneapolis-Saint Paul metropolitan area.
