Wilderness Landscape & Natural Heritage
Lagoa do Peixe National Park is located in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, and covers an area of 34,400 hectares. Established in 1986, the park was created to protect significant wetlands and provide a crucial habitat for migratory bird species. This region stands out for its large lagoon, deltas, dunes, swamps, and floodplains, creating a complex and richly biodiverse ecosystem. It forms an important stopover for migratory birds on the South American flyway, attracting species such as sandpipers, terns, and the endangered red knot. The presence of diverse flora and fauna makes it an essential site for bird watchers and nature enthusiasts alike. Visitors can engage in wildlife observation, especially birdwatching, and experience the serene beauty of the coastal dunes and lagoons. Its relatively remote location and pristine condition provide a unique sense of tranquility and isolation.
