Wilderness Landscape & Natural Heritage
Established in 1981, Książ Landscape Park (Park Krajobrazowy Doliny Bystrzycy) covers a picturesque region around the Bystrzyca River valley near the town of Wałbrzych in Lower Silesia, Poland. The park spans rolling hills, deep river gorges, diverse woodlands, and limestone formations which create a habitat supporting a rich variety of flora and fauna. Forests dominate the landscape, featuring deciduous and coniferous species that offer ideal conditions for numerous bird species, small mammals, and protected plant communities. The centerpiece of the park is the famous Książ Castle, a massive medieval and baroque complex perched on a sandstone ridge overlooking the surrounding valley. This historic site attracts visitors for its architectural grandeur and panoramic views. Beyond cultural heritage, the park offers extensive hiking and mountain biking trails weaving through dense forests, alongside opportunities for wildlife observation and nature photography. The park is a favored destination for nature lovers, history enthusiasts, and outdoor recreation seekers. Visitors can explore small villages, geologically interesting rock formations, and scenic viewpoints. The park’s well-maintained trails and varied terrain make it accessible to a wide range of skill levels, fostering a strong connection between visitors and the natural environment. The nearby urban area of Wałbrzych adds convenience for accommodation and services. The park plays an important role in protecting regional biodiversity and maintaining traditional rural landscapes within an area impacted historically by industry.
