Wilderness Landscape & Natural Heritage
Khao Chong Wildlife Sanctuary is located in Phatthalung Province in southern Thailand, covering a mountainous region characterized by lush tropical evergreen forests. The sanctuary provides critical habitat for an array of wildlife species, including various birds, mammals, and reptiles. The area features rugged terrain with hills reaching up to approximately 900 meters above sea level, offering visitors green forest landscapes and cooler temperatures compared to the coastal plains. Established to conserve native flora and fauna, the sanctuary also supports local watersheds. Visitors can experience peaceful hiking trails that meander through thick forest canopies, observe wildlife in their natural environment, and enjoy natural streams and viewpoints within the sanctuary. While developed visitor facilities are minimal, the sanctuary appeals to nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts interested in birdwatching, photography, and ecological study. Key landmarks include viewpoints overlooking the rolling hills and biodiversity hotspots known for rare orchid species and endemic wildlife. The sanctuary's remote setting provides a quiet retreat from urban areas and highlights the importance of preserving Thailand’s remaining forests.
