Wilderness Landscape & Natural Heritage

Kennebec Highlands is the largest contiguous block of conserved land in central Maine, covering approximately 6,500 acres of rugged terrain. This area features a variety of ecosystems, including hardwood and softwood forests, wetlands, and several small ponds. The land is renowned for its biodiversity, providing a habitat for species such as moose, black bears, and a variety of bird species. Historically, these lands were used for timber harvesting and as hunting grounds by local inhabitants.
