Kahler Heide Nature Reserve is located in the Schleswig-Holstein region of northern Germany, approximately between the towns of Schenefeld and Wrist. Covering a landscape primarily composed of open heathland, dry grass meadows, and scattered forest patches, the reserve protects a rare and ecologically valuable habitat type typical for the region. The reserve’s defining characteristic is its expansive heath, marked by sandy, nutrient-poor soils that support a distinctive assemblage of plants such as heather (Calluna vulgaris), juniper, and various grasses.
