Wilderness Landscape & Natural Heritage
Located near Paithan town in the Aurangabad district of Maharashtra, the Jayakwadi Bird Sanctuary is an ornithologist's delight, with its appeal heightened by the proximity to the expansive Nath Sagar reservoir created by the Jayakwadi Dam. This sanctuary spans a large area and provides a crucial stopover for migratory birds from Siberia, Europe, and the Himalayas. Visitors can expect to see a variety of bird species, including flamingos, cranes, storks, and many others, making it a prime spot for bird watching and photography. The ecosystem here is a blend of aquatic and terrestrial habitats, which supports diverse flora and fauna. Established in 1975, the sanctuary also offers limited facilities for camping and guided tours for educational purposes.
