Wilderness Landscape & Natural Heritage

Iezer-Păpușa Nature Reserve is located in the Southern Carpathians of Romania, encompassing parts of Argeș and Vâlcea counties. The reserve protects the Iezer and Păpușa mountain massifs, which reach elevations exceeding 2,400 meters, featuring rugged cliffs, cirques, alpine meadows, and glacial lakes. The reserve's diverse ecosystems range from mixed beech and conifer forests at lower elevations to alpine grasslands and rock formations higher up. This area is home to several rare and endemic plant species as well as wildlife including brown bears, chamois, lynx, and many bird species such as golden eagles and capercaillie.
