Wilderness Landscape & Natural Heritage
Hauula Beach Park is located on the windward side of Oahu, Hawaii, along Kamehameha Highway. The park features a gentle crescent-shaped sandy beach protected by an offshore reef, creating a natural lagoon ideal for calm swimming and beginner snorkeling. The beach's shallow waters and minimal wave action make it family-friendly and perfect for novice water enthusiasts. The park is surrounded by lush native vegetation and overlooks rugged coastal cliffs and verdant mountains inland. Hauula has historical significance as part of ancient Hawaiian coastal settlements, with cultural remnants reflecting the traditional relationship between the community and the ocean. Visitors can enjoy walking along the shoreline, picnicking under shaded pavilions, fishing from the shore, and observing native seabirds. The park’s tranquil environment and distant views of the Mokulua Islands attract photographers and nature lovers. Hauula Beach Park is less crowded than southern Oahu beaches, providing a peaceful coastal experience. It is also a popular spot for local families and surfers during certain swell conditions outside the summer months. The park’s accessibility and facilities, including restrooms and picnic tables, make it a convenient destination for day use. It is managed by the City and County of Honolulu and serves as a cherished public recreational area preserving the natural coastal environment of northeastern Oahu.
