Wilderness Landscape & Natural Heritage
Harrison Parks Conservation Area spans approximately 1,700 acres surrounding the 250-acre Harrison Lake in Jasper County, Missouri. The area features gently rolling hills, mixed hardwood and pine forests, wetlands, and open grasslands that support a rich variety of plant and animal species. The lake serves as a focal point for recreational fishing, stocked with bass, catfish, and crappie, while the surrounding woodlands provide excellent habitats for white-tailed deer, wild turkey, and migratory birds. Originally acquired by the Missouri Department of Conservation in the late 20th century, Harrison Parks Conservation Area has seen steady improvements to trails and facilities aimed at promoting outdoor recreation and conservation education. Visitors can enjoy multiple miles of well-maintained hiking and mountain biking trails that offer scenic views and birdwatching opportunities. The park also includes primitive camping spots and picnic areas near the lake, making it popular with families and outdoor enthusiasts. Seasonal hunting is permitted in specified zones, contributing to local wildlife management efforts. The combination of water-based activities, forested trails, and wildlife habitats make Harrison Parks Conservation Area a year-round destination for nature lovers, anglers, and hikers seeking a less crowded outdoor experience in southwestern Missouri.
