Wilderness Landscape & Natural Heritage
Harder Kulm, located at an elevation of 1,322 meters above sea level, is a popular viewpoint in the Swiss canton of Bern, known as the 'Top of Interlaken.' It provides sweeping vistas of the iconic peaks of the Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau, as well as the azure waters of Lake Thun and Lake Brienz. The Harderbahn funicular, which has been operating since 1908, takes visitors from Interlaken to the Harder Kulm in about 10 minutes, making it accessible for visitors of all ages. The area is not only a feast for the eyes but also teems with wildlife, including marmots and ibex. Although a stunning destination throughout the year, the best time to visit is between April and November when the weather is favorable for outdoor activities such as hiking. There are several trails surrounding the area, offering varying levels of hiking difficulty. At the summit, the famous Two Lakes Bridge provides a glass-floored platform for a truly unique viewing experience. Additionally, the restaurant at Harder Kulm offers traditional Swiss cuisine paired with some of the most striking views in Switzerland. Its location and accessibility make it a must-visit for anyone traveling in the region.
