Wilderness Landscape & Natural Heritage
Hammeren Nature Reserve is situated at the northernmost point of the Danish island of Bornholm. This nature preserve is characterized by its rugged granite cliffs, heathlands, and dense forests, providing a stark contrast to the sandy beaches found elsewhere on the island. The area supports a variety of flora and fauna, including rare plant species such as the common juniper and wild orchid, as well as bird species like the peregrine falcon. Hammeren has historical significance with its past as a center for quarrying dating back to the 1800s; remnants of these sites can still be seen today. Adventure seekers can enjoy a network of hiking and biking trails that snake through the scenic landscape, offering breathtaking views of the Baltic Sea. The iconic Hammer Lighthouse and views of nearby Hammerknuden are must-see features that draw photographers and nature lovers alike.
