Wilderness Landscape & Natural Heritage

Located in Boynton Beach, Florida, Green Cay Wetlands is a 100-acre constructed wetland designed to treat stormwater while providing a rich natural habitat for native plants and wildlife. The wetland features a 1.5-mile elevated wooden boardwalk that allows visitors to experience a variety of ecosystems, including freshwater wetlands, marshes, and tropical hardwood hammocks. It serves as an important habitat for over 250 bird species including herons, egrets, ibises, and wood storks, as well as numerous reptiles, amphibians, and fish. Established in 1998 and managed by Palm Beach County, the site was developed as part of an effort to improve water quality while offering environmental education and recreation. Visitors enjoy walking the accessible paths for birdwatching, photography, and wildlife viewing.
