Wilderness Landscape & Natural Heritage
The Gibraltar Botanic Gardens, also known as La Alameda Gardens, are situated in Gibraltar, a British Overseas Territory. Covering an area of approximately 15 acres, these gardens serve as a picturesque setting ideal for leisurely strolls and botanical education. Established in 1816, the gardens were created to provide a place of relaxation for off-duty British soldiers and are now home to a wide variety of Mediterranean and subtropical plant species. Visitors can explore beautifully designed flower beds, rockeries, and ponds while learning about the indigenous and exotic plant collections. The gardens also feature an open-air theatre, which hosts various cultural events contributing to its appeal. With well-maintained paths, it offers an excellent opportunity for photography and enjoyment of nature in the middle of a bustling urban environment.
