The Forth Estuary Special Protection Area (SPA) covers a diverse set of habitats along the Firth of Forth in eastern Scotland, extending from the outskirts of Edinburgh to the estuary mouth near Fife and Lothian. This expansive intertidal zone comprises mudflats, saltmarshes, sandflats, and rocky shores, providing critical feeding and roosting areas for large populations of wading birds and wildfowl.
