Wilderness Landscape & Natural Heritage
The Forever Wild Land Trust in Alabama manages over 270,000 acres of natural lands. These areas preserve a mix of forests, wetlands, and rivers across the state, offering a refuge for a wide variety of wildlife species. Since its inception in 1992, the Trust has aimed to protect the ecological integrity of these lands while promoting outdoor recreation. Alabama's unique geography, including the Gulf Coastal Plain, Appalachian foothills, and Black Belt Prairie, provides a rich contrast of landscapes. The Trust supports activities like hiking, bird watching, and fishing through the maintenance of trails, water access points, and camping areas. Notable areas within the Trust include the Walls of Jericho tract in Jackson County with its dramatic canyon scenery and the Weogufka State Forest with its rich biodiversity. Forever Wild continues to attract visitors who seek a deeper connection with nature and an array of recreational adventures.
