Wilderness Landscape & Natural Heritage
Codru Natural Reserve spans a significant area in central Moldova, distinguished by its lush, dense woodlands and rolling hills. It serves as a critical habitat for a diverse range of flora and fauna. Established in 1971, the reserve aims to protect the array of European and local plant species, alongside animals including deer, wild boar, and a host of birds. The area is also significant historically, harboring several ancient archaeological sites. Among the reserve's appeal is its network of trails ideal for hiking, bird watching, and educational tours, providing visitors a chance to experience the untouched beauty of Moldova's landscape. The Reserve is an excellent example of Europe's lesser-known wilderness areas being preserved for ecological study and education.
