Wilderness Landscape & Natural Heritage
City Creek Canyon is a popular recreation area running north from Salt Lake City through the Wasatch Range foothills. The canyon serves as an essential watershed for the city and provides a peaceful escape with its lush vegetation and scenic vistas. The area supports diverse ecosystems ranging from riparian zones along the creek to forested slopes further up the canyon. Historically, it has been used by Native Americans, and later, early settlers for water and resources. City Creek is known for its well-maintained trails which cater to hikers, bikers, and runners alike, as well as its ample picnic spots and charming wildlife presence, including deer and various bird species. Visitors are drawn to its natural beauty, the convenience of its proximity to the city, and the chance for tranquility in a bustling urban area. From May through September, portions of the canyon's road are restricted to bike and pedestrian traffic on certain days, enhancing the natural experience.
