About Chapada dos Veadeiros National Park

Chapada dos Veadeiros National Park offers striking landscapes marked by rugged plateaus, waterfalls, and unique cerrado ecosystems, providing excellent opportunities for hiking, wildlife observation, and nature photography.

Wilderness Landscape & Natural Heritage

Located in the state of Goiás, Brazil, Chapada dos Veadeiros National Park encompasses an area of over 242,000 acres of protected cerrado, one of the world's oldest and most biodiverse tropical savanna ecosystems. The park features dramatic quartzite plateaus formed over 1.8 billion years ago, which shape its rugged terrain of cliffs, canyons, and rock formations. It contains numerous stunning waterfalls, natural pools, and crystal-clear streams that attract nature enthusiasts and adventure seekers alike. The park was established in 1961 with the mission to preserve its unique ecosystems as well as the rich flora and fauna, including threatened species such as the jaguar, maned wolf, and various endemic birds. Visitors can pursue a variety of outdoor activities, including hiking on trails that pass through cerrado woodland and alongside waterfalls, birdwatching, walking to viewpoints, and photography. Key landmarks include the iconic Vale da Lua (Valley of the Moon) with its lunar-like rock formations, as well as multiple waterfalls such as Catarata dos Couros and Cariocas. The park also holds cultural significance for local indigenous and traditional communities. Chapada dos Veadeiros attracts both domestic and international visitors seeking adventure, tranquility, and an immersive experience in one of Brazil's most extraordinary natural landscapes.
