Wilderness Landscape & Natural Heritage
Cenotes Dzitnup consist of two remarkable cenotes situated close to each other: Cenote X'Keken and Cenote Samula. These natural sinkholes are characterized by their crystal-clear turquoise waters and dramatic stalactites hanging from the cave ceilings. Cenote X'Keken is enclosed within a cavern, providing an enchanting atmosphere as light filters through small openings above. Cenote Samula is semi-open, with tree roots extending beautifully into the water beneath. Historically, cenotes were sacred to the Maya civilization, serving as both water sources and venues for rituals. Today, the cenotes are popular for their unique geological formations and provide opportunities for swimming, photography, and learning about local ecology. The area surrounding Cenotes Dzitnup supports varied plant and animal life, making it a fascinating spot for nature lovers.
