Located in the Western Ghats of Goa, Bhagwan Mahavir Wildlife Sanctuary covers a sprawling area characterized by lush greenery, dense forests, and diverse wildlife. The sanctuary, established in 1969, forms part of the rich biodiversity of the Western Ghats, a UNESCO World Heritage site. The sanctuary is renowned for its conservation of numerous species, including the Bengal tiger, Indian leopard, and various reptiles and bird species. Also notable within the sanctuary is the pristine Dudhsagar Waterfalls, a spectacular sight particularly during the monsoon season. The sanctuary also houses the historic Tambdi Surla Temple, a 12th-century structure that reflects ancient architectural design. Traversing the sanctuary are numerous trails and pathways, allowing visitors to engage in hiking, bird watching, and experiencing the vivid array of flora. The expansive sanctuary is not only a haven for wildlife enthusiasts but also offers recreational opportunities for campers and trekkers.
