About Beskid Mały Landscape Park

Beskid Mały Landscape Park is a protected area in southern Poland, renowned for its rolling hills, diverse ecosystems, and extensive hiking opportunities amid picturesque mountain scenery.

Wilderness Landscape & Natural Heritage

Established in 1998, Beskid Mały Landscape Park (Park Krajobrazowy Beskidu Małego) encompasses an area of approximately 11,500 hectares in the Lesser Poland Voivodeship near the city of Kraków. The park is situated in the Beskid Mały mountain range, a part of the Western Beskids, characterized by gentle yet varied terrain of forested hills, river valleys, and small mountain peaks reaching around 900 meters in elevation. Mixed forests dominate the landscape, with beech, fir, and spruce trees providing habitats for diverse flora and fauna, including protected species like lynx and various birds of prey. The region boasts rich biodiversity with several nature reserves and unique geological formations such as caves and limestone cliffs.

The park offers a wealth of recreational opportunities including hiking, mountain biking, birdwatching, and fishing in its numerous streams and reservoirs. Popular trails traverse scenic summits like Czupel, the highest peak in the Beskid Mały range. Historical sites such as ancient wooden churches and small mountain villages add cultural interest to outdoor excursions. The park’s proximity to Kraków makes it a favored weekend destination for nature lovers and outdoor enthusiasts seeking tranquility and panoramic viewpoints.

Visitors enjoy well-marked trails, picnic areas, and opportunities to explore traditional Polish mountain culture. The terrain is suitable for families and moderate hikers, while mountain bike routes offer more challenging adventures. The combination of accessible wilderness, cultural landmarks, and peaceful landscapes ensures Beskid Mały Landscape Park remains a cherished protected area in southern Poland.
