Nevado Tres Cruces National Park is located in the Atacama Region of northern Chile, within the Andes mountain range, and is named after the impressive Nevado Tres Cruces massif, which includes three distinct volcanic peaks, two of which are over 6,000 meters above sea level. The park spans an arid high-altitude plateau dotted with salt flats, lagoons, and desert scrub ecosystems. Ecologically, it supports rare Andean fauna such as the vicuña, Andean fox, and several species of high-altitude flamingos, particularly around the Laguna Santa Rosa and Laguna del Negro Francisco salt lakes.

The park’s volcanic peaks and wide open salt flats create a stark but captivating contrast, appealing to adventurous hikers, mountaineers, and nature photographers. The imposing summit of Nevado Tres Cruces Sur, at 6,748 meters, is one of the highest unclimbed volcanoes in the world and attracts experienced climbers seeking challenging routes.
