Eravikulam National Park Adventures

Eravikulam National Park is located in the Idukki district of Kerala in South India, spreading over an expanse of 37 square miles in the Western Ghats. This stunning park is globally significant for its montane grassland ecosystem and the distinct shola forests. The park is fundamentally crucial for preserving the endangered Nilgiri Tahr, a mountain goat unique to this region. Elevated at a height of 2,695 meters, Anamudi, the highest peak in South India, is set within the park, offering adventurous opportunities like trekking to panoramic viewpoints. Established in 1978 to protect the indigenous flora and fauna, Eravikulam serves as a sanctuary for a wide variety of species, including over 132 bird species and 101 butterfly species. Besides wildlife viewing, the park offers hiking trails through its rolling hills and expansive grasslands. It's a particularly popular travel destination from February to March during the Neelakurinji bloom, a rare spectacle where the landscape is dominated by the blue blooms of the Strobilanthes flower, which blossoms once every 12 years.
