About Parc National de la Jacques-Cartier

Parc National de la Jacques-Cartier is located north of Quebec City and protects a spectacular glacial valley carved by the Jacques-Cartier River. Spanning over 670 square kilometers, this park is characterized by steep, rocky slopes, flowing rivers, and mixed forests dominated by pine, fir, and birch. The park's landscapes include sharp ridges, marshlands, and boreal forest ecosystems that support diverse wildlife such as moose, beaver, black bear, and numerous bird species. Established in 1981, the park preserves the natural environment along a stretch of the Jacques-Cartier River, popular for canoeing and kayaking. Hiking trails range from easy walks along riverbanks to challenging climbs up exposed rock faces with panoramic views over the valley and Laurentian Mountains. In winter, the park transforms into a hub for snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, and ice fishing. Key attractions include the striking viewpoints at L'Éperon, which overlooks the canyon, and the Vallée glacière, a glacial valley that demonstrates the park's rich geological history. The park is favored by nature lovers, adventure seekers, and families, offering well-maintained facilities, camping areas, and interpretive programs. Its proximity to Quebec City makes it a convenient wilderness escape with diverse activities and stunning natural features.
