About Khun Chae National Park

Khun Chae National Park is located in the mountainous area of northern Thailand's Chiang Rai Province, covering an area of approximately 256 square kilometers. The park's landscape is characterized by steep mountain ridges, deep valleys, and an elevation ranging from 800 to 1,964 meters, with Doi Khun Chae being the highest peak. The park's environment consists primarily of montane evergreen and mixed deciduous forests, providing habitat for diverse flora including pine trees, oaks, and rhododendrons, as well as fauna such as gibbons, barking deer, and various bird species. Its cool climate, especially from November to February, makes it an appealing escape from the tropical heat of lower altitudes. Visitors can explore hiking trails that lead to viewpoints and waterfalls like Mae Koeng Waterfall, a series of cascades spread over 200 meters in height, famed for its natural beauty. The park also holds cultural significance with nearby hill tribe communities, featuring traditional lifestyles and weaving crafts. Khun Chae offers picnic areas, camping facilities, and observation points where visitors can enjoy the scenic vistas of the surrounding highlands. Its relatively remote location results in lower visitor numbers compared to more famous parks, contributing to a tranquil and less developed park experience. Wildlife enthusiasts and naturalists appreciate the diversity of species and the opportunity for birdwatching and forest trekking. Khun Chae presents a blend of natural splendor, cultural interest, and outdoor recreation that appeals to those seeking a quiet, nature-focused experience in northern Thailand.
