Mu Ko Ang Thong National Marine Park

Mu Ko Ang Thong National Marine Park, established in 1980, covers an area of approximately 102 square kilometers in the Gulf of Thailand. The park consists of 42 islands comprised mainly of limestone hills, dense tropical vegetation, hidden lagoons, white sandy beaches, and crystal-clear waters that support a rich diversity of marine life. The park's geography features dramatic karst formations rising steeply from the sea, enclosing emerald lagoons such as the iconic Talay Nai (Sea Inside) on Ko Mae Ko, a top attraction in the park. Ecologically, the marine park preserves coral reefs teeming with colorful fish, nudibranchs, and sea turtles, along with mangrove forests that provide critical nursery habitats. Visitors to the park can engage in activities such as snorkeling on coral reefs, kayaking around the islands, hiking to viewpoints atop steep cliffs, and exploring caves. The park is a popular day-trip destination from the nearby islands of Koh Samui and Koh Phangan but also allows overnight camping on select islands with permits.
