About Valley Forge National Historical Park

Valley Forge National Historical Park is located in southeastern Pennsylvania, near Philadelphia. The park covers over 3,500 acres of rolling hills, meadows, and woodlands, centered around the area where General George Washington and the Continental Army established a pivotal winter encampment during the American Revolutionary War from December 1777 to June 1778. The park offers a mix of natural and cultural resources, with preserved earthworks, reconstructed huts, and numerous monuments commemorating this key episode in American history. The landscape features deciduous forests, open fields, and streams that provide habitat for white-tailed deer, foxes, wild turkeys, and a variety of songbirds, contributing to its biodiversity. Visitors can explore over 20 miles of multi-use trails designed for hiking, biking, and running, winding through dense woodlands and past historical landmarks such as Washington’s Headquarters, the Muhlenberg Brigade site, and the National Memorial Arch. Educational programs and guided tours provide insights into the conditions soldiers endured, the military strategies employed, and the park's role in the founding of the United States. Beyond history, the park’s scenic roadways and picnic areas make it a favorite spot for local recreation. Valley Forge serves as both a natural refuge and a place of reflection, attracting history buffs, outdoor enthusiasts, and families throughout the year.
