Wilderness Landscape & Natural Heritage
Ratargul Swamp Forest, located in the Sylhet Division of Bangladesh, is a unique and enchanting freshwater swamp forest covering around 3,325.61 acres. This biodiverse region, fed by the waters from the nearby Gowain River, is characterized by its dense forests submerged during monsoon seasons, which create a surreal scenery of trees growing directly out of the waters. Home to numerous species of aquatic plants, birds, snakes, monkeys, and other wildlife, the forest becomes a vibrant ecosystem during flooding. Originally managed by authorities for timber, the forest is now a Major Ecotourism Destination offering visitors boat rides through tranquil waters. The area is particularly popular for bird watching, as various migratory birds visit the swamp. The forest provides visitors a unique glimpse into a vibrant ecosystem, offering adventure and a retreat into nature's wonder.
