Pinchot State Forest is located primarily in Luzerne and Wyoming counties of northeastern Pennsylvania, encompassing approximately 53,000 acres of forested land. The forest is named after Gifford Pinchot, the first chief of the U.S. Forest Service and a pioneering advocate for sustainable forestry. The landscape is shaped by the glaciated hills and valleys of the Appalachian Plateau, featuring rocky ridges, mixed hardwood forests, and freshwater streams. The forest supports a variety of wildlife including white-tailed deer, black bear, wild turkey, and numerous songbird species.
