Wilderness Landscape & Natural Heritage
Located in north-central Ohio, Mohican State Forest spans over 4,500 acres and is part of the larger Mohican-Memorial State Forest complex. Known for its beautiful, hilly terrain and dense forests of oak, hickory, and hemlock, the area provides a habitat for a wide range of flora and fauna. Established in 1928, the forest has a rich history intertwined with conservation efforts and outdoor recreation development spearheaded by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s. Visitors can enjoy numerous recreational activities, including hiking on picturesque trails, mountain biking, and horseback riding. Fishing and canoeing on the Clear Fork of the Mohican River are popular pastimes, as well as camping in designated areas. The forest's serene environment attracts nature photographers and bird watchers, while its proximity to Mohican State Park increases the available amenities and activities.
