Wilderness Landscape & Natural Heritage
Located in Luodong Township, Yilan County, Taiwan, Luodong Forest Recreation Area encompasses approximately 350 hectares of well-preserved subtropical forestland nestled within the foothills of the Central Mountain Range. This area was initially developed during the Japanese colonial period for timber production and later transformed into a recreational forest in 1978 to protect local biodiversity and provide the public with natural leisure spaces. The park features a rich mixture of native trees such as Taiwan Red Cypress, Taiwan Yellow Cypress, and diverse broadleaf species, supporting abundant birdlife and small mammals. The landscape is characterized by gently rolling hills, well-kept walking paths, multiple scenic waterfalls including the serene Wishing Tree Falls, and wooden suspension bridges that add to the rustic charm. Visitors can enjoy a variety of recreational activities like hiking on trails varying from easy to moderate difficulty, guided ecological tours, and picnicking in designated areas. The park also contains a Forestry Exhibition Hall, which offers educational insight into Taiwan's forest history and local ecology. Its accessibility from the nearby Luodong urban area makes it a favored natural retreat for locals and tourists alike. The combination of cultural heritage, well-maintained infrastructure, and pristine natural scenery contribute to the appeal of Luodong Forest Recreation Area as a must-visit outdoor destination in northeastern Taiwan.
